Video Lesson

PART ONE:
Well the lesson that I wanted to do for my video lesson was approved by my co-operating teacher. The minute I received her email response I wanted to reschedule it. For the rest of day I could not think of anything else and all I could do was practice the lesson in my head.

That evening I began putting together my supplies that I would need to teach the following morning. I loaded my supplies in little sandwich baggies for the pairs to share and then loaded everything into a large tote bag that I had from when I had my Art methods class.

PART TWO:

I arrived to the school early the next day so that I could speak with my co-operating teacher. I mentioned that I was little nervous but not about being video recorded, more so about making sure my lesson was organized and stayed focused. As the students began to pour into the classroom and work on their daily oral language worksheets, I had some last minute words with the teacher. At 9a.m. I took over the classroom and began my instruction of the writing strategy that I would be teaching them. It went pretty smoothly to start, only a few technical issues with an overhead. Overall it went well considering it was the first time I ever used an overhead projector. I had my notes to make sure I stayed on task and kept my objectives in head for assessment purposes.

The lesson flowed nicely and the students attention stayed engaged. They seemed to enjoy the strategy they were learning and I had forgotten all about the camera. As the lesson neared the end, I checked for time and began moving them into guided practice/independent practice. The class seemed to do well during guided practice with the first half of the actual lesson. When I turned them loose to work in pairs I noticed their were three to four groups who were confused. I walked around the room and tried to reach those who remained stuck on what it was they needed to do.

Part Three:
Once I finished the lesson, I spoked to my co-operating and she told me how she felt about the lesson. Over all she said she enjoyed the lesson and liked the strategy that I taught.

I had viewed my tape, and under little influence of an alcoholic nature, I thought I kept a pretty even flow of teaching. My classroom management was consistent, I maintained student interest and overall I feel that that my students learned a new strategy that will assist them in creating better paragraphs and starting new ideas in an organized manner.
